The Heart of Enfield Mosque: a vision for North East Enfield
Our History
The Heart of Enfield Mosque initiative is a charitable organisation working for the past 10 years to develop and engage the local population. The vision to establish a new mosque in the north eastern Enfield area was borne out of an identification of the clear need for greater facility and access to services to the local population, this not only includes the need for greater access to religious facility for the area’s Muslim population but also a need for the Muslim community to better dispense its social and moral obligations to its wider community.
We have worked these past 10 years to within our capacity do as much as we can and are proud to see the benefit our work has brought to local lives, from being the founding organisation of the now cross organisational Enfield Eid in the park to our weekly food bank providing essential food and supplies to local families in the EN3 postcode during the COVID 19 pandemic, we exist to use the values and teachings of our Islamic faith to provide wider benefits for our community.
The Heart of Enfield Mosque project presents a unique forward thinking aspirational vision of Islamic services in our locality, one at which the Mosque serves as the heart of people’s lives and from where a person finds their heart attached. A vision developed by current or former residents of the north east Enfield area who have excelled in their respective fields and worked within the dynamic of the Muslim community both locally and nationally seeking to give back to their community.
The Enfield Lock area is one of the poorest wards in the borough suffocated by a range of social challenges and disadvantages for its population. It also boasts a Muslim population of almost 20% with no local Mosque. The local community is severely underserved in an array of areas which require urgent attention and addressing.
